MOSCHINO PRESENTS SS26 COLLECTION

Reuse, recycle, reimagine – these are the core tenets of the Spring/Summer 2026 Moschino collection
by creative director Adrian Appiolaza. To reuse is to repurpose, recalibrate and reevaluate. To recycle
is to reconsider, reappraise and reclaim. To reimagine is to revitalize, reconceptualize and redefine.
All have their inherent place within the panorama of fashion, and the framework of a heritage house
- where a future is born from respect and reconsideration of a past, where newness can be found in
that which surrounds.
Niente - much made with little. The ethos of the Arte Povera movement - quintessentially Italian,
anarchic and ironic - is less inspiration than kindred spirit, aligned with the philosophies of Franco
Moschino and alive still in the house that bears his name. That movement’s core belief systems - a
return to simplicity, the meaning in the quotidian, nature alongside industry, dynamic energy - is
translated to a collection that pays homage to the sheer ingenuity of the creative act as a means of
transformation.
Fashioning fashion. Pre-existing pieces are recalibrated, garments crushed patched and combined to
form the raw material for new pieces, dresses and accessories. Humble and human materials and
gestures - sack cloth, rope, wood, lacing, knotting - are elevated. Naive flowers become poetic
embroideries, strewn across dresses and tailoring; potato sacks become an evening inspired top and
skirt. These reflect a questioning of values and meanings, the notion that luxury may have a different
worth. Here, luxury is evoked by a sense of the hand, of craft, of the joy of making. The ordinary
becomes extraordinary.
There is a sense of curiosity, of surprise - materials transforming under the touch, becoming other. A
bouffant evening skirt is executed in crinoline, normally hidden; knits are created with technical
raffia, recycled from plastics. Accessories toy with perception - leather appears as cardboard, taped
“Fragile”; a package of apples or a bundle of newspapers becomes idiosyncratic handbags. The
signature Moschino “Tie Me Bag” is executed in rubber, or “dressed” in cloth.
In turn, to recycle is to rediscover. References to Moschino’s heritage, to the Smiley, his trompe l’oeil
effects, his newspaper prints of the early 1990s, today updated with our good news. His always-ironic
take on the contemporaneous. And now as then, there is an obsessive love for fashion, insomuch as
fashion as true expression of imagination - a playfulness and a play with clothes.
This collection is a discovery - of the wonder in the everyday, the something within “nothing”.

Niente is also the word on the T-shirt in Look 4, an original piece designed by Franco Moschino for his
Spring/Summer 1992 collection that returns to the runway before being auctioned on eBay as part of the “eBay
Endless Runway” project, created to celebrate the idea of circular fashion. The proceeds from the auction will support
the Camera Moda Fashion Trust.
